Abstract

Introduction:  Cannabidiol (CBD), a non-psychoactive compound from Cannabis sativa, is studied for its therapeutic potential, particularly in neurological disorders like epilepsy. Objectives:Analyze the mechanisms of CBD action in brain cells of individuals with epilepsy, focusing on the involved signaling pathways. Methodology: A systematic review was conducted using “Cannabidiol” and “Epilepsy” in PubMed, Scopus, and SciELO (2019–2024), selecting ten articles. Results: CBD may reduce seizures, especially in refractory  cases, by interacting with the endocannabinoid system and modulating CB1 and CB2 receptors. Further research is needed to clarify its mechanisms. Conclusion: CBD shows promising therapeutic effects in epilepsy, but further research is essential to optimize its clinical use.
